Pet Things donates one ton of litter to new shelter

Pet Things Douglasville

Pet Things provided a huge boost to the new animal shelter during their open house on May 20 by donating a ton (2,000 pounds) of cat litter. They also sponsored the free-run cat room, and donated all of the food and drinks for the event. The new shelter is located at Deer Lick Park, just off Fairburn Road.

The store, which is located at 6880 Douglas Boulevard near Arbor Place Mall, has always been a huge supporter of local animals and their care. In April and May they took in five dogs that were lost. One dog was only in the store three hours. Pet Things read his microchip, contacted the owners and he was picked up shortly thereafter. Over the five years the have been open, they have taken in 57 animals, and around ten have been reunited with their owners, with others being adopted. Some of the pet food manufacturers help out by donating food for the project.

The selection of foods and supplies at Pet Things is especially oriented towards natural and holistic dog and cat supplies. A self-serve dog wash is available for those who wish to bathe their pet themselves, instead of doing it at home or making a trip to the groomer.

Pet Things is open from 10am to 8pm Monday through Saturday, and on Sunday from noon to 6pm. For more information, you may visit their very active Facebook page at PetThingsDouglasville, or their website at You may also call them at 678.224.6438.
