Douglas County, through a partnership with the National Association of Counties and CVS Caremark, provides a FREE prescription discount card to County residents. The card gives discounts on prescriptions for residents who are uninsured, underinsured, seniors and pet owners in the County. Residents benefit from the program by saving an average of 24 percent off of their prescriptions. There is no cost for a resident as well as no forms to fill out, no age or income requirements, and no medical condition restrictions.
One card can cover an entire family. Nine out of 10 pharmacies accept the card out of a network of more than 60,000 pharmacies Nationwide. The cards are available upon request from the Douglas County Department of Communications and Community Relations, 3rd floor, Douglas County Courthouse, by calling 770.920.7593 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Cards will be placed in the next day’s mail.
The card works by a person simply presenting the card at any participating retail pharmacy. Persons may use the card any time a prescription is not covered by insurance. There are no restrictions or limits on how many times a person may use the card. The prescription discount card is not insurance. Rather, it is a simple way to save money on prescriptions not covered by insurance.
Prescription discount cards are also available in Spanish.
The prescription discount cards are available to anyone who requests them, and out-of-County and out-of-State residents are also welcome to use the cards. The program is sponsored by Douglas County, but the program is Nationwide.
Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan stated that “we want to make sure that every resident of Douglas County has access to the prescriptions they need, and the free prescription discount card program helps a little bit for those who do not have prescription insurance. We are pleased to be able to offer this program to our citizens.”
