The City of Douglasville, Douglas County Chamber, Leadership Douglas and Young Professionals Chamber are sponsoring a blood drive on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new Douglasville Conference Center. Participants will receive a free t-shirt and be entered to win a $1,000 gift card. Chick-fil-A will provide breakfast and Yogli Mogli will provide afternoon snacks.
“While only about three percent of the population donates blood, many of us will need blood at some point in our lifetime,” said Jerry J.K. Tillery, chief executive officer, American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region. “The Red Cross relies on volunteer donors to meet the needs of patients who depend on transfusions. It is important that our donors realize the impact they have on the lives of so many.”
The Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to patients in more than 120 hospitals. Approximately 1,200 people need to give blood or platelets each week day to meet hospital demands.
Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Platelets can be given every seven days, up to 24 times a year.
To schedule an appointment to donate, please call the Chamber at (770) 942-5022 or visit redcrossblood.org and use online sponsor code DCCHAMBER.
