On 06-26-13, at 12:29 PM, the Villa Rica Police Department responded to the Mobley Jewelry Company on Hwy 61 in Villa Rica due to gun shots. Upon arrival it was discovered that the owner, Mitch Mobley, 45 years old, had died at the scene from a gunshot.
The investigation revealed that four males entered the store and began to break the glass in the display cases. During the robbery Mitch Mobley confronted the suspects and was shot. It is believed that three of the suspects fled the area in a small black vehicle along with the vehicle’s driver. The fourth suspect fled the area on foot and was caught by Villa Rica officers a short distance from the scene.
The suspect that fled the area was identified as Eric Billings, 16 years old, from College Park Ga. He was charged as an adult with Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
During the early morning hours of 06-27-13 a second suspect was arrested near Stone Mountain. The suspect was identified as Raphael Rucker, 23 years old, from Atlanta Ga. Rucker was charged with Murder and Armed Robbery and is currently in the Carroll Co. Jail.
The Villa Rica Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by members of Carroll Co. Sheriff’s Office, Carrollton P.D., ATF, FBI Safe Street Gang Task Force, and the Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force (SRFTF). The investigation is still ongoing as leads are being investigated.
The Villa Rica Police Department offers our deepest condolences to the Mobley family during this time. The Mobley family has asked that the media respect their loss and allow them time to grieve. The Mobley family does not want to be contacted by the media.
