Huge Meth Bust on I-20 nets over 1M in drugs

On Sunday November 9, 2014 at approximately 8:09 pm Deputy David Gray of the F.I.N.D. (Felony Interception Narcotic Detection) Unit observed and stopped a 2006 Ford Freestar van driven by a 64 year old male subject identified as Jose Garcia-Contreras from Eagle Pass, Texas for a traffic violation.

After further investigation by the deputies and a search of the vehicle, deputies located a false man made hidden compartment in the vehicle. Inside the hidden compartment were a total of thirty-eight packages of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine.

Upon finding the suspected Crystal Methamphetamine the male subject Garcia-Contreras was detained and both subject Garcia-Contreras and his vehicle were brought to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. At the sheriff’s office the contents of the packages was tested and tested positive for Crystal Methamphetamine.
The total weight of the Crystal Methamphetamine was sixty-five pounds with a street value of over one million dollars.

Subject Jose Garcia-Contreras was placed under arrest and is currently in the Douglas County Jail charged with trafficking methamphetamine and false compartment in a motor vehicle with no bond.
