The Douglas County Public Library is set to begin a long-awaited full interior and exterior renovation this June. This will mark the first major update to the facility since it was originally built in 1984.
The comprehensive renovation project will modernize the library to better meet the needs of the growing and evolving community. Planned upgrades include updated electrical and plumbing systems, natural lighting improvements, additional study rooms, improved meeting spaces, a redesigned children’s library, and enhanced technology offerings.
In addition to interior improvements, the renovation will feature an updated and expanded butterfly garden and a new outdoor children’s space designed to support library programming and interactive learning.
“This much-needed renovation will allow us to serve our ever-changing community better,” County Librarian Lindy Moore said.. “The citizens of Douglas County deserve a welcoming and updated library space. We aim to create a vibrant community center where people of all ages can learn, connect, and thrive.”

Construction is expected to take approximately one year to complete. During that time, the main library will be temporarily closed. However, Douglas County Library services will continue at a temporary location at 8465 Campbellton Street in Douglasville.
In addition to the temporary site, library patrons will still have access to:
The Dog River Library and Lithia Springs Library
The Pop-Up Library Bookmobile
Remote Pick-Up Lockers located at Boundary Waters
A full selection of library materials and free WiFi access
Library programming will also continue throughout the renovation. The 2025 Summer Reading Program will take place as planned, with events hosted at the temporary library location and at the Woodie Fite Senior Center.
Douglas County Public Library Library officials encourage residents to take advantage of these continued services while construction is underway. They also expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and support as the county works to deliver a revitalized library space that will better serve future generations.
