Janet Newton of Douglasville was announced the winner of the Discover Douglasville Photo Contest hosted earlier this year by the Douglasville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). Newton was recognized at the City of Douglasville’s Preservation and Tourism Luncheon held at the new Douglasville Conference Center on Thursday, May 9. The Discover Douglasville Photo Contest was designed to challenge photographers’ creativity in showcasing Douglasville and Douglas County at its best, and was open entry free to amateur and professional photographers ages 18 and older.  Newton’s winning photo, “Meet Me at the Plaza,” was taken on O’Neal Plaza in downtown Douglasville.  As the contest winner, Newton received a $200 gift card courtesy of the Douglasville CVB.

Nine photos were selected as finalists based on appeal, content, and photographic skill. Those top photos were then placed on the Visit Douglasville website for the public to vote on the winning picture.  All nine images were used to create high quality postcards and are now featured on the main page of the Visit Douglasville website.  Each finalist received a box of postcards featuring their photograph.  These postcards are now available in the Douglasville Welcome Center.

Tourism Director, Randi Miles says “The CVB plans on making the photo contest an annual event.  Those who submitted a photograph but were not chosen as a finalist are encouraged to enter again next year along with those who weren’t able to participate this year.”

In honor of National Travel and Tourism Week, stop in the Douglasville Welcome Center any weekday in May between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., write a postcard message to a family member or friend and the CVB will postmark it for free.  Choose from the brand new selection of postcards, featuring pictures from the Discover Douglasville Photo Contest finalists.
