More than 2,800 GreyStone Power members and their families attended the 77th Annual Meeting of Members on Oct. 11. The event had 1,164 registered members in attendance. Members gathered at GreyStone’s Douglasville office for the festivities, which included an Energy Efficiency Expo, food and retail vendors, as well as a Health Fair.
The amusement area kept families busy with inflatables for children, games, balloon artists and face painters. Children had the chance to learn about using electricity safely when employees presented interactive “Safety City” demonstrations.
Members also enjoyed a free Chick-fil-A® biscuit that morning while they listened to a musical performance from The Old Paths Quartet, a group of Southern gospel singers.
This year’s Energy Efficiency Expo included multiple seminars presented by GreyStone’s Residential Energy Services department. Seminar topics included “The Importance of Changing Filters” and “All Things Solar.”
Several business owners who provide Co-op Connections® Card (CCC) discounts to GreyStone members sold food and retail items at the event. Participating vendors included Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q, Yogli Mogli, Mill Town Music Hall, Vineyard Streetball Classic, Douglasville Retail Meat & Smokehouse, Studio T, Pampered Chef, Stallings Insurance and Harry Norman.
During the business portion of the meeting, GreyStone President/CEO Gary Miller reported on the co-op’s achievements for the past year, including keeping costs low. “The Public Service Commission released that for summer 2014, GreyStone ranked the sixth lowest cost provider among all 41 EMCs in Georgia for those members using 1,000 kilowatt hours monthly. For winter 2014, GreyStone ranked fifth lowest in cost out of 41,” Miller said.
Miller also thanked the employees for their service and noted that member satisfaction scores rose from 8.85 last year, on a scale of 1 to 10, to 9.05 for the second quarter of this year, the highest score ever achieved.
Also during the business meeting, members elected directors without opposition (uncontested) from Districts 2, 6 and 7 by voice vote for full three-year terms.
No candidates were nominated through petition by members. Elected were incumbents John Walton, District 2, Paulding County; Maribeth Wansley, District 6, Fulton, Fayette and Coweta counties; and Milton Jones; District 7, Fulton County.
Following the business session of the Annual Meeting, the Board of Directors convened to elect officers for the following year. The Board selected Jennifer DeNyse as Chairwoman, Jim Johns as Vice Chairman and Milton Jones as Secretary-Treasurer. DeNyse represents District 5, Carroll and Douglas counties, Johns represents District 8, Douglas County, and Jones represents District 7, Fulton County.
The event concluded with 51 door prizes, which included GreyStone bill credits and a 40-inch LED high-definition television. The grand-prize giveaway was a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado C1500 truck retired from the GreyStone fleet.
